Good afternoon, Band Parents and Students,

I have several things for the next couple of weeks:

1.     All flower bulb orders and money are due this next MONDAY, FEB. 6^th. 

 

2.       Next week all music teachers in HISD will be attending the Texas Music Educators Association Conference in San Antonio.  This will affect after school sectionals for Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band.  The schedule will be as follows:

Monday (2/6)	3:30-4:15	Wind Ensemble Flutes/Oboes
		Symphonic Trumpets
	4:15-5:00	Wind Ensemble Altos/Horns
		Symphonic Flutes/Oboe/Clarinets
Tuesday (2/7)	3:30-4:15	Wind Ensemble Low voices
		Symphonic Low voices
	4:15-5:00	Wind Ensemble Trumpets/Clarinets
		Symphonic Altos/Horns
Wednesday (2/8) and Thursday (2/9)		NO Sectionals

Percussionists will NOT have sectionals after school next week.  Again this is only for next week (2/6-2/10).

3.       The students will have a sub next week in class while we’re gone to TMEA.  Wind Ensemble/Symphonic Band will have a sub only Thursday and Friday so their instruments MUST go home on Wednesday (2/8) and stay home until Monday (2/13).  Concert White/Cadet Band/Concert Green will have a sub on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday so their instruments MUST go home Tuesday (2/7) and stay home until Monday (2/13).

The sub will have work for the students to do while we’re gone.  This work will be graded.  Please understand that misbehaving for the sub will result in your student losing their trip to Six Flags.  If I cannot trust the students to behave properly when I’m away, then I know I will not be able to trust them to do the right things at Six Flags. 

4.       The week of Feb. 13^th MPMS will be taking benchmarks.  This will alter our schedule a bit but we will still have normal after school sectionals.

 

5.       Tuesday, Feb. 28^th is our Pre-UIL Concert at 6:30PM at the HS.  All eligible students are required to participate.  The dress is concert attire.  I will send more specific details as we get closer.

6.       Don’t forget practice records are due EVERY MONDAY.  Practicing at home is VITAL to your student’s success in band.  Please help them to be successful by insisting that they spend time on the instrument that you have invested in!
