Spencer Vandigriff
Assistant Director of Bands
Spencer Vandigriff serves as the Assistant Band Director at Huntsville High School. His teaching responsibilities consist of directing the symphonic band, teaching beginner flute classes at Mance Park Middle School, and assisting with the Hornet Military Marching Band. Before coming to Huntsville, Mr. Vandigriff taught for two years in Aldine ISD at Aldine Middle School where his students were consistently awarded with best in class awards. Mr. Vandigriff also had numerous students place and advance to the TMEA All-Region, Area, and All-State bands and orchestras at Aldine High School where he taught weekly lessons and masterclasses
Mr. Vandigriff graduated magna cum laude from the University of Houston with a double bachelors degree in music education and flute performance. While at the University of Houston, he studied under Associate Professor of Music Education, Dr. Cory Meals and Affiliate Artist, Melissa Suhr. Other influential teachers include Vicky Williamson, Charlotte Royall, and Scott McAdow. Prior to attending the University of Houston, Mr. Vandigriff was a member of the Montgomery Golden Bear Military Marching Band where he found a passion for the preservation and execution of the Military Marching Arts.
An advocate for the creation and performance of new music, Mr. Vandigriff has premiered multiple new large ensemble, chamber, and solo works through his participation in the AURA Contemporary Ensemble at the University of Houston and the Spring ISD Alumni Band. His most recent premiere took place at the 76th annual TBA convention in San Antonio at the Lila Cockrell Theatre with the Spring ISD Alumni Band.
Mr. Vandigriff maintains professional affiliations with the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas BandMasters Association, the Houston Flute Club, and is also an alumni of the Omicron Upsilon Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity.
