Good Evening Parents and Students,
I want to congratulate everyone on a very successful contest season. All four bands worked extremely hard on their concert music and performed very well. Even though every band didn’t receive a 1st division in both concert and sight reading, there is still much to be proud of and excited about for the future. Concert Band received a 1st division in sight reading, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble both received a 1stdivision in both concert and sight reading and Wind Symphony received a 1st division on stage. Also, our middle school bands just finished their contests and there were many successes there as well. I am so proud of all of our students for not only the results from contest but mostly from how diligently they prepared. The process is as important as the result.
A few announcements and reminders:
1. Band evaluations are next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday after school. The students have had this music for about two weeks so they have had plenty of time to prepare. These evaluations help us determine where each student will be the most successful and where each student needs to be for each band class to be successful. We will begin at 3:45pm each day and go until we are finished. The schedule for what day and in what order each instrument will go is below:
Monday, April 24
Tuesday, April 25
Bass Clarinet/Bassoon/Oboe/French Horn/Clarinet
Wednesday, April 25
2. Thursday, April 27th will be our first annual jazz and percussion concert. It will be held in the HHS Band Hall. Percussionists from HIS, MPMS and HHS will be performing along with the MPMS and HHS jazz bands. The percussion will perform first followed by the jazz bands. You are more than welcome to stay for both portions of the concert but there will be 15 minutes in between the two groups if you do not wish to stay for both. The schedule is below:
6:30-7:15pm Percussion Concert
7:30-8:15pm Jazz Concert
3. We concluded Drum Major Camp today and it was very successful. I appreciate all of the students who attended the 3 day camp for their dedication to making themselves better and to our program. The try-outs will be next Friday the 28th. Please remember that these try-outs are closed to all except the participants. This is not a popularity contest so please do not send balloons, good luck signs, flowers, etc. before, during or after the try-out. Thank you for your help with this.
4. This week we asked for people to sign-up that would be willing to serve as either a librarian, on operations, a clerk or on uniform crew. We will keep those sign-up sheets up through Monday of next week. Please understand that just because someone puts there name down does not guarantee that they will be given that position. We will place everyone into positions based on what will make the band most successful. We also put a Mama/Papa Duck (section leader) form out for people to fill out that wish to be considered for that position. Again, filling out this form does not guarantee that they will get the position but it will give us information that will help us make the best decision possible for the band. Those forms are due to us no later than 7:45am on Friday, April 28th.
